EQ

1. I have reviewed the rule of three.
2. a. No, it doesn't meet the criteria. It talks about a factor, which basically is a yes or no question because it requires a single word answer.
     b.  Yes, it meets the critera. It envelopes a deeper answer because there could be so many aspects of secuing conviction. It just asks for more research. More meat on the bone.
      c. No, the formating is alittle off, but I suppose there could be some research in finding out what could best satisfy most customers.
       d. No, the formating is alittle weird and could use something else to help it not give a single answer.
3. What is most important in managing a successful retail pharmacy?

Reserach and Working EQ

1.Working EQ: What is the best way to run both aspects of being a pharmacist, patient care and business?

2. EQ answer:

  • The best way for a Pharmacist to handle the patient care aspect of his job, is too make sure that each patient understands and comprehends the prescription drug they are taking. The more they know, the better off they will be.
  • Building a friendly relationship with patients not only adds to patient care, but as a retail pharmacy owner, keeps them coming back and providing income.
  • To better the financial structure of a retail pharmacy, each drug sold should show have a equal return on how much the pharmacist pays to obtain the drug and gets compensated for it by insurance companies and the patients.
  • Making sure that all permits and licenses are current and updated to sell prescription drugs.
3. The best source that I have other then my mentor, would be the  ASHP( American Society of health system pharmacists). This is probably my most credible source because of how distinguished it is and how many peer reviewed articles they have.

4.  My mentor is Timmothy Wong, Retail pharmacist, and I am volunteering at his pharmacy. What I do at the pharmacy and observe is what helps me to answer my EQ the best. There I am able to see what proper patient care and instuction  are, and also how to manage selling drugs so that there is income when dealing with insurance companies and patients.

Blog 7: Independent Compontent 1 Approval

1. I plan to do my 30 hours at the pharmacy of my mentor. I am going to do additional mentorship hours for my Independant component. I plan on shadowing my mentor, who is an expert pharmacist in his field, and will see all aspects of what is actually is to be a pharmacist. I will also be allowed to handle patient care( talking to them and heling them understand their prescriptions), under my mentors supervision. Also to see the advanced system he has on running the business of his, which is a retail pharmacy.

2.  To show evidence of my mentorship and hours, I will update my mentorship log and provide pictures.

3. I'm planning on going more in depth in what a pharmacist must actually think about when handling controlled drugs and how he sells prescriptions based off of how much revenue he will intake from sells that mostly depend on insurance companies.

Every prescription has its story

Today I was talking to Tim( my mentor) about the patient care aspect of being a pharmacist, and how each patient that he has relys on him to give the most accurate information on how to handle the drug, which if not handled correctly could be dangerous. He also was telling me about how important it was to deal with patients who were also customers since he owned the pharmacy and that making sure they were satisfied was a good way to keep them coming back.

Basically, that meant when a senior citizen comes in(like hundreds did) and decided they could spend the next hour and a half chillin and talking about the glory days, you had to made sure that they felt as comfortably as possible. Like when this guy came in, maybe in his late 60's, and decided to stay for awhile after recieving his medication and my mentor said I could handle this one. So I wasn't to excited to hear why he was getting his medication but it was actually intresting, he was a retired airmen who flew expiremental aircraft for the military and in one test, was shot out of a plane without him knowing about it and it completely left his back like a train wreck. I really enjoyed the time talking to him, and that was only one patient. It made me realize how important the patients are and I feel will give me more perspective to use in my senior project.

Blog 5 Projection reflection and working EQ

1.Positive Statement: A positive thing to happen so far over the course of my research and observation of the pharmaceutical career, is that by actually being behind the counter with a pharmacist, I was able to see what "a day in the life" is like. It helped me truly see what the end game was and what I was in for, which ultimately affected my decision to choose this topic.

2. EQ content: From my mentor ship, I was able to get a better understanding of how the average retail pharmacist achieves his/her position of maintaining their own retail pharmacy. From starting positions at chain pharmacies such as CVS, and Riteaid, pharmacist can really get a better start in the career with the benefits they receive and schedules that compliment the hours. After knowing the drugs and all the info you can, the aspect of business in pharmaceuticals is something to be very common with.

3. The deadlines of each blog has really worked for me because it's taught me the importance of time in between assignments.

4. At first it was the constant struggle to find decent and credible research, but from what I was able to do at the library, I think I will be overcoming this little setback soon.

5.  What is the best way to properly run both aspects, patient care and business, of a retail pharmacy efficiently?

I have a mentor named Timmothy Wong who has been a retail pharmacist for 12 years.

Blog 4: Interview Preparation

1.  I plan on interviewing a Pharm Tech, or Pharmacy technician at my main mentors pharmacy. I am choosing him for this interview because he supports the pharmacist in pharmacological services by stocking, assembling and distributing medications. He is very familiar with all tasks that a pharmacist would normally do on a day to day basis, and actually participates in many of those tasks. He handles patient care and can inform them on their medication details like a pharmacist, and patient care is half of the job.

2.Open-ended questions I can ask in addition to the 5 assigned questions are:

  • Has there ever been anything throughout your years in the profession that has stayed consistent(not changed)?
  • What seemed most appealing about the job when you were first deciding you wanted to become involved?

Blog 3: Topic Choice and Semester 1 ESLR Goals

1. My topic is Pharmaceuticals.

2. An ESLR I would very much like to improve on is that of effective communicator, more or less dealing with Respect, talking without interupting. As Mr. Strand had to constantly remind me of the rules on the walls of such incidents I had. Upon hearing the teacher speak, I frequently like to give my own opinion on the matter and go into discussions that are inappropriate at the moment. Also when it comes down collabrotive work with others, I like to think my ideas are the best and would much rather do things on my own than take someone else's opinion on an assignment. For example, during the junior year projecy, Project prometheus, during the construction of the city, I basically disregarded all other ideas in contrast to me, and resulted in much uneeded conflict. Consistency, working in class has never been a strong suit of mine, always thinking that if I could work on it at school, surely I could do it at home. From doing this, I quickly overwhelmed myself with assignments such as Writing Workshop and other core class work ,and I would hope to learn to use every minute effectively. Awareness, as a senior, coming close to finishing my manditory serivice learning hours would definetly a great thing to have accomplished in time as I tend to procrastinate.

The most important thing i gained from working with Tim, was an idea of what it would be like if I were a Pharmacist doing my job from day to day. I really needed to get an idea of what it would be like to I could fully determine if this was the job for me. I now can say that this is the job I will pursue and it feels great to know why.
